IE7 Scares Me

Wednesday, August 30, 2006 8:27 AM

I've done some sites in ASP.NET 2.0 now, and they look great....in IE 6. But now that Microsoft is getting ready to release IE 7, testing those same sites isn't having the same happy effect anymore.

One site I worked on has a piece that outputs a dynamically created HTML table, with links and whatnot. In IE 6.0, the page grows properly, so the user scrolls down the page to see the rest of the table. In IE 7.0, it doesn't. The table gets cut off where the Master Page footer starts. Not good.

I have to echo the same mantra that so many people have cried out over the last few weeks: Why can't we just have a stand-alone application that can run side by side with prior versions of Internet Explorer? There's bound to be sites that aren't going to function properly with IE 7, and there will be a timespan where Microsoft will need to fix bugs and features in the product...but to force it down everyone's throats AND have it replace IE 6 outright...not really a fan of that.
