Geeks With Blogs

About Me:
I am a Female SharePoint Developer (a platinum unicorn). I have been working with SharePoint since I attended the Portal University in 2005. I hold a BA in Computer Science from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. I love playing Rockband, organizing user group meetings, working with code, attending events as a speaker or organizer, and having bizarre conversations about geek things with cool people. If you have any comments or questions fill out the contact form and I will try my best to help.

The Guide of a MOSSLover Becky Isserman's Blog

I suppose it’s one year and a bit of a day now, but anyway…One year ago today I started at Planet Technologies.  I landed in Las Vegas on Monday, September 13th, 2010 and showed up to the Holiday Inn on Rainbow Blvd.  They had two boxes for me, one cell and one laptop, it was kind of like being on a mission for some super secret organization.  A day later I showed up to the client site and assessed the situation.  I was not sure if this job was the job for me yet.  I had good recommendations via email from a couple community members, but I was still on the fence.  Nothing quite lived up to my time working with Michael Lotter and Josh Carlisle at B&R Solutions.  I can safely say after one year they have far surpassed my expectations.  While it’s not quite the same experience as B&R it’s pretty close and slightly better than what I expected.  Honestly though I cannot compare the two situations, because Michael and Josh were like my mentors and I feel like I’m more experienced from that time.  I still could learn a few tricks (no one can say they know everything right?).  I have more community involvement and I have a lot more experience, then I did in September 2008 when I joined B&R.  I’m still not quite there with who I want to be, but I’m a lot closer.  I am now a Practice Lead in charge of three people, who I get to meet with in the next few weeks.  It’s a huge contrast from the apprentice and more towards the master.  I feel like I’ve finally found a place for at least a little while.  So as Pink would say “Raise your glass” and let’s celebrate.  Despite all the craziness with the break up, the earthquake, the hurricane, and the flooding some good has come in the past few weeks.  I’m walking forward and no one can stop me…One step at a time one foot in front of the  other.  If you’re at SharePoint Conference, SPS UK, SPS Twin Cities, SPS Richmond, or SPS Virginia Beach come up to me say “Hi”.
