Geeks With Blogs

About Me:
I am a Female SharePoint Developer (a platinum unicorn). I have been working with SharePoint since I attended the Portal University in 2005. I hold a BA in Computer Science from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. I love playing Rockband, organizing user group meetings, working with code, attending events as a speaker or organizer, and having bizarre conversations about geek things with cool people. If you have any comments or questions fill out the contact form and I will try my best to help.

If you are going to be in San Francisco or surrounding areas I would recommend attending SharePoint Saturday San Francisco.  It will be just as good as all the other SPS events, such as Tulsa, New York, Virginia Beach, Kansas City, etc…  The link for the event is  It looks like Paul Schaeflein, Michael Lotter, and others will be presenting.  San Francisco is a nice city.  You could check out Fisherman’s Wharf and the second largest Chinatown in the country.

The next event going on is in Kansas City.  I’m not sure if they are still accepting others.  It is called Coders 4 Charity.  The event occurs Friday through Sunday.  You basically live at Centriq in Leawood, KS.  You are assigned a team and a charity.  This year I am going to be on Lee Brandt and Tim Wright’s team again.  We are the reigning champs creating a WSS 3.0 site for a Boyscout troop in Blue Springs, MO.  As last year we will most likely play a lot of Rockband in between coding and helping out charities.  If you would like more information please visit this site at

There is another event in Richmond, VA, the Richmond Code Camp.  It looks like a lot of good names are on the list for this free event including, Jessica Moss, Kevin Griffin, Susan Lennon, and Kevin Griffin.  There are sessions SharePoint related and .Net General with JQuery, SQL, and other good technologies.  If you are on the east cost it looks like this is the free event to attend.

So there you have it one midwest event, one east coast event, and one west coast event.  Granted I’m not covering north and south in each area, but there is only so much knowledge I can retain and cover all at once.  The value of these events is great, because you get so much knowledge in the one hour plus sessions usually for the SharePoint Saturdays and Code Camps.  Coders 4 Charity though is very unique, because if you are like me you may not readily go out and volunteer at a food pantry or the habitat for humanity.  In fact I’m pretty sure habitat would not want me building a house, because I believe I would destroy it more than I would actually help out the project.  That’s why I do coders, so I can help out in my own way.  I also helped my team kick butt last year and any of you guys coming this year I’m challenging you to beat Lee’s team (that’s right bring it).  If you are coming this weekend I’ll catch you there.  If I see you at a future event then I will catch you at that event.
